The Root | The Metal Element

As we moved into September and autumn, we entered the metal element.
Autumn is a time of harvest. We gather what we have planted and nurtured throughout spring and summer, while nature slowly begins to draw its energy inward. The trees let go of their leaves. The energy of the plant returns to its roots. Everything begins to slow down, turn inward and prepare for the quieter months ahead. There is something beautiful in this transition. We are invited to pause and acknowledge what has grown.
Take a minute or two to look back at this year so far. What have you created, learned or accomplished? What effort have you put in that deserves to be acknowledged?
And perhaps, alongside the harvest, autumn also asks us what we are ready to let go of. The Metal element is traditionally associated with letting go, release and making space for what is essential.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Metal element is connected with the Lung and Large Intestine meridians, which run along the inner and outer arms. The Lung is seen as the boundary between the inside and the outside. A balanced Lung meridian is associated with the ability to receive, release and move through change and transitions. The Large Intestine is associated with elimination and releasing what is no longer needed.
In the pictures, you’ll find four yoga poses that work with these meridian pathways and can be a beautiful way to connect with the qualities of the metal element.
With an open heart,
Tiziana
